152: Business User Training on Consuming Dashboards

Leverage Salient to open any shared dashboard and then tailor the content to your area of responsibility and your business questions. Understand what is possible in Salient dashboards and good questions/enhancements to enquire about with the dashboard authors.


Learn how to fully exploit the Dashboards built and published by each department. Learn the business-cases behind the global dashboards and how to apply them in your job.


Standard set of Global Dashboards finished with explanations embedded for the specific purpose of the dashboard. Standardized Role-Based Dashboards must already be developed.

Capabilities Learned:

Training will focus on how to modify the date, segment in focus, metric chosen, how to drill down – all basics. This course follows our current Quick Start Guide for SDM 5.x very closely.

  • Switching between numbers and various chart types per analysis
  • Perform Variance Math (Difference, Percent Change, Mix, Change in Mix)
  • User-defined calculations using options found at the top of each column heading
  • Finding Dashboards (linked pages need to be setup for you, “favorites”
  • Need to use the original links, not the resulting link after opened
  • Apply Filters or create Filter selections for end-users (collections)
  • Adjusting time periods (options pre-set on the authoring side vs end-user)

  • How to interpret an Exception Analysis in a Dashboard widget

Standardizing metrics and dashboards that are easy for your team to understand and that apply to the various target roles being supported (whether it is an internal team or a supplier portal.)

Proficiency Testing:

  • Ability to interpret current Published Dashboards, pertaining to individual’s area of oversight
  • Ability to identify the specific measure or relationship between measures that is intended to provide the decision-support indicator in each dashboard
    • Example: the “Diff” column in a YTD vs YAG providing an indication of Gains or Losses vs YAG.
